MINISTRY COUNCIL

Dalton Headshot
PRESIDENT: DALTON HAYDEL

President

Hi there! I’m Dalton Haydel, a second-year and proud New Orleanian at heart. When I’m not writing an essay for one of my politics or philosophy classes, you can find me perfecting my French, playing ping pong in the STA common room, or meeting new people on Grounds. Deeply formed by my Jesuit education, I strive to live by the motto Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (“for the greater glory of God”) and my favorite Bible verse, “… ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me’” (Matthew 25:40). As I aspire to serve in public office one day committed to doing God’s work, Saint Thomas More serves as one of my greatest inspirations and my favorite saint. Passionate about promoting the Gospel of Life, I also serve on the board of Hams for Fams, a New Orleans non-profit that feeds Christmas meals to several hundred families each year, and I look forward to cultivating a community of service at STA. Thank you for this opportunity to serve our Lord.

HELEN SPARLING

Ministry Council Member, Chair of Prayer Committee

My name is Helen Sparling, and I’m a third year from Oakton, VA majoring in Psychology and Studio Art. I am hoping to pursue a career in the mental health field, though I don’t think there is a world in which I will ever stop painting. When not in my studio, you will probably find me reading, listening to music, starting up a new creative hobby, or lifting at the gym. I love seeing the Lord in nature, especially sunrises. My favorite scripture passage is from the Canticle of Zechariah: “In the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us.” I am excited to serve CatholicHoos this year on council!

JACK VISTA

Ministry Council Member, Chair of Communications Committee

Hello! My name is Jack Vista and I am a second-year from Long Island, New York, majoring in Economics. I usually spend my time playing sports, wasting time on the internet, doing school work, or just hanging out with my friends at STA! If you ever want to start a conversation with me, mention Joe Montana, the Yankees (but not Juan Soto), or that you are interested in altar serving. Having been formed by Marianists at Chaminade High School, I try to live my life always keeping in mind Ad Jesum per Mariam and the words of our Blessed Mother at the Wedding at Cana: Do whatever He tells you. My favorite saint will forever be St. Thomas More, who shows that true excellence isn’t your position or your success, but your desire to love God and the limits to which you will go for Him. More serves as an example to me to never allow my love for God to fall short. I look forward to serving you this year on the ministry council and if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to snag me after mass!

ANNA JONES

Ministry Council Member, Chair of Social Committee

Hi everyone!! My name is Anna Jones and I am a third year from Northern Virginia! When I am not in class or at STA, I like to bake, FaceTime with my sister, and watch the 2019 version of Little Women (especially the edit to “Champagne Problems”)! My grandmother was my biggest role model to the faith. She shared with me her love of the Sacraments, the Rosary, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, which led me to develop my own personal relationship with God. My favorite Saints are St. Faustina, St. Pope John Paul II, and St. Thérèse of Lisieux. I cannot wait to serve this great ministry over the next year and I am excited for all of us to grow closer together as we develop deeper relation with our Lord.
